MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 30

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:30 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 209 of the West Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, Raymonde Folco, Gurmant Grewal, Denis Paradis, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.

Acting Member present: Ivan Grosse for John Cannis.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

Delegation: Feliksas Palubinskas, Vice-Chairman of the Seimas and Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for Relations with Canada; Mečys Laurinkus,Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Seimas; Rimantas Jonas Dagys, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Seimas; Audronius Ažubalis, Member of the Foreign Relations Committee and Seimas Delegation to the North Atlantic Assembly; H. E. Alfonso Eidintas, Ambassador of Lithuania in Canada.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with a delegation from Lithuania.

Feliksas Palubinskas made an opening statement and, with the other members of the delegation, answered questions.

At 10:35 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
