MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 146

Monday, June 7, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 5:10 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Charlie Penson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

Acting Members present: Sarmite Bulte for John Cannis; Murray Calder for Julian Reed.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Dupras, Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73.)

Tne Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, --That notwithstanding the decision of the Committee of June 1, 1999, that dissenting opinions to the Committee Report on the WTO be limited to 5 pages and that the dissenting opinion be provided to the Clerk of the Committee in both official languages no later than Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at 12:00 p.m.

It was agreed, --That the draft report, as amended, be adopted as the Ninth Report of the Committee and that the Chair present the Report to the House.

It was agreed, --That the Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report to the House.

It was agreed, --That the Committee print 2,000 copies of the English version of the Report; 1,000 of the French version of the Report and 5,000 of the Citizen's Guide in a bilingual tumbled format.

It was agreed, --That the Committee convene a press conference on Thursday, June 10, 1999 following the presentation of the Report to the House.

At 8:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
