Monday, June 7, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, John Cannis, Maud Debien, Hon. Sheila Finestone, Bob Mills, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

Associate Member present: Murray Calder.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Dupras and James Lee, Research Officers.

Delegation from Ireland: The Honourable Seamus Pattison, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Michael O'Kennedy, M.P.; Austin Deasy, M.P.; Brian O'Shea, M.P.; The Honourable Tom Fitzgerald, Senator; The Honourable Willie Farrell, Senator; Eoin Faherty, Principal Clerk, Inter-Parliamentary Section; H.E. Paul Dempsey, Ambassador of Ireland to Canada.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with a Parliamentary delegation from Ireland.

The Honourable Seamus Pattison made an opening statement and, with the Honourable Tom Fitzgerald, Michael O'Kennedy, Austin Deasy and Brian O'Shea, answered questions.

At 4:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
