MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 142

Tuesday, June 1st, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 9:15 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, The Hon. Sheila Finestone, Bill Graham, Bernard Patry, Charlie Penson, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.

Associate Members present: Bill Blaikie, Sarmite Bulte, Murray Calder.

In attendance: From the Parlamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Dupras; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Gerald Schmitz and Daniel Shaw, Research Officers. Chris Maule and Roy Hines, Consultants.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings, of October 22, 1998, Meeting No. 73).

The Committee proceeded to discuss a draft report.

It was agreed, -That dissenting opinions to the Committee Report on the WTO would be limited to 3 pages.

It was agreed, -That the evidence received by the Committee on the FTAA be deemed referred to the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment.

It was agreed, -That the Chair be authorized to engage the services of editors to edit the text of the draft report of the Committee on the WTO.

It was agreed, -That the consideration of current requests to meet with the Committee be deferred to the fall.

At 11:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
