Tuesday, May 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:40 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, John Cannis, Maud Debien, Bernard Patry, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed and Benoît Sauvageau.

Acting Members present: Reg Alcock for Bob Speller, Stan Keyes for Bill Graham, Alex Shepherd for Sarkis Assadourian.

Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Friday, April 30, 1999, the Committee resumed its consideration of Bill S-22, An Act authorizing the United States to preclear travellers and goods in Canada for entry into the United States for the purposes of customs, immigration, public health, food inspection and plant and animal health. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, May 6, 1999, Meeting No. 131).

The Committee proceeded to Clause-by-Clause consideration of the Bill.
