The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 8:34 a.m. this day, in Wildrose Centre Room of the Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire in Calgary, Alberta, the Vice-Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Charlie Penson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.

Associate Members present: Sarmite Bulte; Murray Calder.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the University of Calgary: Stephen Randall, Dean of Social Sciences; Eugene Beaulieu, Department of Economics; Dixon Thompson, Professor of Environment Science, Faculty of Environment Design, Ekos 707. From the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA): Brian Gromoff, National President; Gary Neil, Policy Advisor. From the Agri-Industry Trade Group: Dale A. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings, of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73).

Stephen Randall, Eugene Beaulieu, Dixon Thompson, from the University of Calgary, made statements and answered questions.

Brian Gromoff and Gary Neil, from the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, made statements and answered questions.

Dale A. Riddell, from the Agri-Industry Trade Group, Glenn Logan, from the Alberta Barley Commission, Ted Menzies, from the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association and Michelle Melnyk, from the National Farmers Union, made statements and, with Brian Kriz, answered questions.

At 10:30 a.m. Murray Calder took the Chair.

At 10:45 a.m., Sarmite Bulte resumed the Chair.

At 11:50 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:11 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Bruce Beattie, Don Sundgaard and Dale Enarson, from the Poultry & Dairy Industries of Alberta, made statements and, with Tony Wooldridge, answered questions.

At 2:24 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:34 p.m., the sitting was resumed.

Peter Watson, from the Alberta Economic Development Authority, made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
