Tuesday, April 27, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 8:30 a.m. this day, in the Saturna Island Room of the Hotel Vancouver, in Vancouver, British Columbia , the Acting-Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Darrel Stinson.

Acting Member present: Werner Schmidt for Bob Mills.

Associate Member present: Sarmite Bulte.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO) (See the Minutes of Proceedings, of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73).

Dr. Nola-Kate Seymoar, from the International Centre for Sustainable Cities, made a statement and answered questions.

Dr. Dorothy Riddle, from the Service-Growth Consultants Inc, made an opening statement and answered questions.

Ellie O'Day, from the Pacific Music Industry Association, made a statement and answered questions.

Steven Shrybman, from the West Coast Environmental Law Association; Dr. Peter Carter, from the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment; and Annelise Sorg, from Canadian Marine Environment Protection Society, made statements and answered questions.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.
