The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in the Saturna Island Room of the Hotel Vancouver,Vancouver, British Columbia , the Acting Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Darrel Stinson.

Acting Member present: Werner Schmidt for Bob Mills.

Associate Member present: Sarmite Bulte.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO) (See the Minutes of Proceedings, of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73).

Joan Smallwood, from the Government of British Columbia, made a statement and answered questions.

William Saywell, Yuen Pau Woo, from the Asia Pacific Foundation, Marc Lee, from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, and Michael Hart, from the Centre for Trade Policy and Law, made statements and answered questions.

Dr. Douglas Seeley made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:00 noon, the sitting was suspended.

At 1:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Duncan McLean and Gary Worth, from the Confederation of Canadian Unions, and Jef Keighley, from CAW, made statements and answered questions.

Herb Barbolet, from the Farm Folk/City Folk Society; Soonoo Engineer, from the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom; Dorothey Goresky and Noël Armstrong, from the Unitarian Church of Vancouver; Murray Dobbin, from the Council of Canadians; Hugh Dempster; Doris McNab and Lydia Sayle, from British Columbia Voice of Wome, made statements.

Uri Stauss, from University of British Columbia Students Against the MAI; Rob Nagai and Winnie Kuitenbrouwer, from the Langara Students Union Association; Damien McComb; and Mark Veerkamp, from the Canadian Federation of Students, made statements and answered questions.

David Ridley, from the Hospital Employees Union, made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 9:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
