Thursday, March 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in the Salon Parc 1 of the Hotel du Parc in the City of Montreal, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Bernard Patry, Benoît Sauvageau.

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Jean Augustine; Deepak Obhrai for Charlie Penson.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Dupras, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Environment Industry Association: Colin Isaacs, Chair, National Policy Committee and President of Contemporary Information Analysis; Robert Fraser, Chair, Environmental Exporters Council; Rebecca Last, Director of Programmes and Policy. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73.)

Colin Isaacs and Robert Fraser each made an opening statement and answered questions.

Bernard Houde and Terry McCool each made an opening statement and answered questions.

Yves Lanctôt and Patrice Laquerre each made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Bonnie Campbell, Gilbert Gagné, Ysolde Gendreau and Vilaysoun Loungnarath made an opening statement and answered questions.

Thomas Lavier made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
