Monday, March 22, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:30 a.m. this day, in the Borduas Room of the Loews Le Concorde Hotel in Quebec City, the Acting Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Bernard Patry, Benoît Sauvageau.

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Jean Augustine; Deepak Obhrai for Charlie Penson.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Dupras, Research Officer.

Witnesses: As Individual: Ivan Bernier, Professor, Law Faculty, Laval University; Paul Crête, M.P., Riding of Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup-Témiscouata-Les Basques, QC. From the «Association coopérative d'économie familiale de Québec»: Daniel Germain, Sociologist. From the «ACEF Rive-Sud»: Enrico Théberge, Spokesperson. As Individual: Stéphane Rémillard, Consultant, International Trade.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73.)

Ivan Bernier made an opening statement and answered questions.

Paul Crête, M.P. made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:05 a.m., Bill Graham took the Chair.

Daniel Germain, Enrico Théberge and Stéphane Rémillard each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 1:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
