Meeting No. 71

Thursday, February 11, 1999

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:09 a.m., this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Paul Bonwick, Murray Calder, Denis Coderre, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Jake Hoeppner, Larry McCormick, Ian Murray, Dick Proctor and Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Witnesses: From the Pest Management Regulatory Agency: Wayne Ormrod, Chief Registrar; Dr. Claire Franklin, Executive Director; Wendy Sexsmith, Director, Alternative Strategies and Regulatory Affairs; Robert Woods, Director, Management, Planning and Coordination Division. From the Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Sally Rutherford, Executive Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed examination of the Mandate, Management and Operation of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA).

Dr. Claire Franklin made an opening statement and, with Wayne Ormrod, Wendy Sexsmith and Robert Woods, answered questions.

Sally Rutherford made an opening statement and answered questions.

On motion of Larry McCormick, it was agreed, -- That the 4th Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure be concurred in.

At 11:15 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
