The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:01 a.m., this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Odina Desrochers, John Harvard, Larry McCormick, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.
Acting Member present: Roy Bailey for Howard Hilstrom.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Pork Council: Martin Rice, Executive Director; Edouard Asnong, President and Vice-President, « Fédération des producteurs du porc du Québec ». From the Canadian Meat Council: Bill Mulock, President; Robert Weaver, General Manager; Brian A. Read, Vice-President. From the National Dairy Council of Canada: Kempton L. Matte, President and Chief Executive Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee resumed the "Take Note" Hearings on the Upcoming World Trade Organization (WTO) Negotiations on agriculture -- (See Minutes of the committee of October 22, 1998, Meeting No. 50).
Bill Mulock, Robert Weaver, Kempton L. Matte and Edouard Asnong made opening statements and, with other witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
