Tuesday, December 1st, 1998
The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:04 a.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Jake Hoeppner, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.
Witnesses: From the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association: Larry Maguire, President; Kevin Archibald, Vice-President; Paul D. Earl, Manitoba Policy Manager. From the Canadian Pork Council: Martin Rice, Executive Director; Edouard Asnong, President and Vice-President « Fédération des producteurs du porc du Québec ».
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and its Order of Reference dated October 27, 1998, the committee resumed the study of the upcoming crisis in farm incomes (See Minutes of the Committee of October 27, 1998, Meeting No. 51).
Larry Maguire and Edouard Asnong made opening statements and, with other witnesses, answered questions.
At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
