The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food met at 9:05 a.m., this day, in Room 371, West Block, Joe McGuire, presiding.


Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Paul Bonwick, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Jean-Guy Chrétien, Denis Coderre, Jay Hill, Jake Hoeppner, Larry McCormick , Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor and Rose-Marie Ur.


In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: Sonya Dakers, Research Coordinator.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the World Trade Organization’s challenge against the European Union Hormone Ban.

 

Witnesses: John Klassen, Director General, General Trade Policy Bureau, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Charles Craddock, Director, Eastern Hemisphere Division, Agri-Food Canada; James Stringham, Counsel, Trade Law Division, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Peter Pauker, Manager, International Liaison and Science Policy, Health Canada, Blair Coomber, Associate Director, Policy and International Affairs, Canadian Food Inspection Agency; Michele Brenning, Senior Trade Policy Analyst, Eastern Hemisphere Division, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Ray Trottman, Meat and Poultry Division, Canadian Food Inspection Agency. M.S. Yong, Chief, Human Safety Division, Bureau of Veterinary Drugs, Health Protection Bureau, Health Canada.

John Klassen made an opening statement and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:33 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
