The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:04 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joe McGuire, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon E. Benoit, Paul Bonwick, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Jean-Guy Chrétien, Denis Coderre, John Harvard, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Members present: Charlie Penson for Jake E. Hoeppner; André Bachand for Rick Borotsik.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Witnesses: (Roundtable format) From the Department of National Revenue: Phil McLester, Interim director, Nomenclature and Tariff Treatment Policy Division. From the Department of Finance: Darwin Satherstrom, Chief, International Trade Policy Division. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jean Saint-Jacques, Director, Trade Controls Policy Division. From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Mike Gifford, Director General, International Trade Policy Directorate, Market and Industry Services Branch. From the Dairy Farmers of Canada: Barron Blois, President; John Core, First Vice-President; Richard Doyle, Executive Director. From Unilever Canada Limited: Don Jarvis, Trade Consultant. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to an Information Session on the subject matter of the Importation of Butteroil and Sugar Blends.

Phil McLester from the Department of National Revenue made a statement and answered questions.

Darwin Satherstrom from the Department of Finance made a statement and answered questions.

Jean Saint-Jacques from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade made a statement and answered questions.
