M-573 Disabled Contributor’s Child Benefit

41st Parliament, 2nd Session

Motion Text

That, in the opinion of the House, the government should convene a meeting with provincial and territorial ministers to negotiate an agreement on changes to the Canada Pension Plan Act so as to: (a) make it illegal to offset the Disabled Contributor’s Child Benefit from Long-Term Disability insurance payments; and (b) ensure that the benefit is applied, as intended, to provide support for families of persons with disabilities in view of the extra costs associated with raising a child, and not be considered as part of the parent’s income for the purpose of calculating Long-Term Disability insurance payments received from the public or private sector.
