In Loving Memory of Carl Tyrone Gillis (1970-1996)

One could not help but be drawn to Carl: a passionate storyteller, a friendly smile, an infectious laugh. A true ambassador of his native Cape Breton, a place that was a part of who he was.

And when you know the wings you ride

Can keep you in the sky

There isn't anyone holding back you

First you stumble, then you fall

You reach out and you fly

There isn't anything that you can't do

Flying on Your Own, Rita MacNeil (1986)

Carl was loved by all who knew him.

The chair was produced by Jonathan Otter, winner of the 2016 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Art Award
