REV. STANLEY KNOWLES
This was the office of Stanley Knowles, M.P, for Winnipeg North Centre from 1942-58 and 1962-84. After retirement he was named an Honorary Officer of the House of Commons. A follower of the “social gospel”, he was renowned for his advocacy on behalf of the elderly, veterans, the poor and other disadvantaged Canadians. As a long-time House
Leader of the NDP, his knowledge of the rules and his love for Parliament had no equal.
M. Stanley Knowles qui a été députe fédéral de Winnipeg Nord de 1942 à 1958 et de 1962 à 1984 a occupé ce bureau. Au moment de sa retraite, il a été nommé fonctionnaire honoraire de la Chambre des communes. Un adhérent au `social gospel`, il s’est fait connaître par ses actions et interventions en faveur des personnes âgées, des
anciens combattants, des pauvres et d’autres Canadiens défavorisés. Il a longtemps rempli les fonctions de leader à la Chambre du NPD. Sa connaissance des règles de procédure et son très grand respect des institutions parlementaires n’ont eu aucun égal.
