Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development on Thursday, February 4, 2016, and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Thursday, October 4, 2018, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the global state of the free press.

Laura Helena Castillo, by videoconference from Caracas, Venezuela, and Esther Htusan, by videoconference from Cambridge, Massachusetts, made statements and answered questions.

At 2:02 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
