APPENDIX D: CANADIAN MILITARY AND POLICE PERSONNEL DEPLOYED ON UN PEACE OPERATIONS (1991-2018)

The figure provides, for the 1991 to 2018 period, the annual number of Canadian military and police personnel deployed on United Nations (UN) peace operations since the end of the Cold War; it does not include such personnel deployed on non-UN peace operations, such as those of the Multinational Force and Observers or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The figure illustrates a significant increase in Canadian military and police personnel deployed on such operations between 1991 and 1992, with an increase from 976 to 3,216. It then depicts a major reduction in such deployments over the next 25 years, reaching a low of 88 personnel in 2017. The number of Canadian military and police personnel deployed on UN peace operations started to increase again in 2018 with the beginning of Canada’s mission in Mali.
