Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 1, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of migration challenges and opportunities for Canada in the 21st century.

Jean-Nicolas Beuze made a statement and answered questions.

Motion

Michelle Rempel moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee conduct a study on Yazidi refugee family reunification; that this study examine the backlog in existing sponsorship cases for Yazidi refugees; that this study consider expanding the definition of family members for Yazidis given the severe trauma they have experienced at the hands of ISIS; that this study review the One Year Window of Opportunity Provision; that departmental officials be in appearance for at least one meeting of this study; that the Minister of Immigration be invited to appear; that the Committee report its findings to the House; that this study occur before May 1, 2019; and that pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government table a comprehensive response thereto.

Debate arose thereon.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the written testimony presented by Rachel Kiddell-Monroe and Rodrigo Dominguez Villegas be appended and published in today’s Evidence.

The debate on motion continued.

At 5:08 p.m., by unanimous consent, Salma Zahid took the Chair.

At 5:13 p.m., Robert Oliphant took the Chair.

At 6:18 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 7:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned for lack of quorum.
