Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 1, 2018, the Committee commenced its study of migration challenges and opportunities for Canada in the 21st century.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the routine motion governing staff attending in camera proceedings, adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, supporting officials from the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Department of Public Safety, as well as parliamentary interns attend the in camera briefing.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:46 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee study the subject matter of the Main Estimates 2018-19: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Department of Citizenship and Immigration; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee study Vote 1 under Immigration and Refugee Board.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $9,950.00, for the study of migration challenges and opportunities for Canada in the 21st Century, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion concerning the Committee's travel budget to Tanzania, Uganda and a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) refugee and settlement camp, adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, the Committee be authorized to provide hospitality, working meals and gifts, as deemed appropriate, during the travel.

It was agreed, — That the draft study plan in relation to the study on the migration challenges and opportunities for Canada in the 21st Century, prepared by the analysts from the Library of Parliament, be adopted.

At 1:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
