The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Randall Garrison, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Russ Hiebert, Ryan Leef, Rick Norlock, LaVar Payne, John Rafferty and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay for Candice Bergen, Jim Hillyer for Candice Bergen, Craig Scott for Jean Rousseau and Hon. Judy Sgro for Francis Scarpaleggia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Air India 182 Victims Families Association: Bal Gupta, Chair; Rob Alexander, Committee Member and Spokesperson. Canadian Coalition Against Terror: Maureen Basnicki, Founder Director. Canadian Civil Liberties Association: Nathalie Des Rosiers, General Counsel. British Columbia Civil Liberties Association: Carmen Cheung, Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, October 23, 2012, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, November 5, 2012, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-7, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act and the Security of Information Act.
 

Maureen Basnicki, Bal Gupta and Rob Alexander made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Carmen Cheung and Nathalie Des Rosiers made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
