The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Steven Blaney, Sylvie Boucher, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Yvon Godin, Monique Guay, Richard Nadeau, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, Pablo Rodriguez and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Ed Fast for Shelly Glover and Royal Galipeau for Daniel Petit.

 

Associate Members present: Claude Gravelle.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst; Nicolas Auclair, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That any member of the Committee be entitled to submit a dissenting or supplementary opinion to any Committee report in accordance to the Standing Orders of the House, provided that it is no more than five (5) pages in length and submitted electronically to the Clerk in the 48 hours following the adoption of a report, in both official languages.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study on the review of the last 40 years of the Official Languages Act and that the Fédération des communautés francophones et acadiennes du Canada be invited to appear on this subject on December 3, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study of the federal government’s support of the francophone media and that the Association de la presse francophone be invited to appear on this subject on January 26, 2010.

 

At 10:12 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
