The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Barry Devolin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Tina Keeper, Marc Lemay, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Gilles-A. Perron for Yvon Lévesque, Gary Schellenberger for Harold Albrecht and Brian Storseth for Rod Bruinooge.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Michael Wernick, Deputy Minister; Peter Harrison, Deputy Minister, Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada; Jim Quinn, Chief Financial Officer; Neil Yeates, Associate Deputy Minister; Christine Cram, Acting Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Socio-Economic Policy and Regional Operations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2008-09: Vote 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, L30, L35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT referred to the Committee on February 28, 2008.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Department provide written answers to any questions listed in the Library of Parliament briefing notes on Main Estimates, that have not already been answered during today's meeting.

 

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
