The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Barry Devolin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Barry Devolin, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell, Brian Storseth and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Charlie Angus for Jean Crowder, Hon. Larry Bagnell for Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Tina Keeper and Mario Silva for Nancy Karetak-Lindell.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Alberta First Nations Treaty 6, 7 and 8: Jim Big Plume, Director, Tsuu T'ina Nation Land Claims; Ron Lameman, Chief Executive Officer, Confederation of Treaty No. 6; Ron Maurice, Legal Counsel, Tsuu T'ina Nation; Stanley Lagrelle, Sunchild First Nation. Council of Yukon First Nations: Mark Wedge, Carcross / Tagish First Nation; David Joe, Technical Advisor.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, December 10, 2007, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-30, An Act to establish the Specific Claims Tribunal and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

Jim Big Plume and Ron Maurice made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Chief Mark Wedge made a statement and, with David Joe, answered questions.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
