Meeting No. 25

Thursday, October 18, 2001

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, Rodger Cuzner, Wayne Easter, Loyola Hearn, Dominic LeBlanc, James Lunney, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle, Tom Wappel.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Fisheries and Oceans: Michel Desparois, Manager, Marine Communications and Traffic Services; Jon Churchill, Superintendent, Office of Boating Safety, Pacific Region. From the Coast Guard Marine Communications and Traffic Services Officers (Local 2182 - CAW): Martin Grégoire, President; Russ Arnott, Regional Director; Frank Dwyer, Acting Regional Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), meeting on Marine Communications and Traffic Services (West Coast).

The Chair made opening remarks.

Russ Arnott made a statement.

Frank Dwyer made a presentation.

Martin Grégoire made a statement.

Michel Desparois made a statement.

The witnesses answered questions.

On the motion of James Lunney, it was agreed, - That the Committee adopt a plan to examine MCTS capability on both Coasts.

At 11:12 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
