Thursday, November 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:00 a.m. this day, at the Delta Beauséjour in Moncton, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, Wayne Easter, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O'Brien, Charlie Power, Carmen Provenzano, Paul Steckle and Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witness(es):. From the New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples Council: Betty Ann LaVallée, CD, President; Philip Fraser, Coordinator. As an individual: David Bell, Professor. From the Conservation Council of New Brunswick: David Coon, Policy Director. From the New Brunswick Wildlife Federation: Fred Wheaton, Chairman. From the Acadian Groundfish Fishermen's Association: Alyre Gauvin, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study on the implications of the September 17th, 1999 Supreme Court decision on R. v. Marshall on the Management of fisheries in the Atlantic Region.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
