Pursuant to Standing Order 30(5), the House proceeded to Oral Questions.

DAILY ROUTINE OF BUSINESS

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mrs. Gaffney (Nepean), seconded by Mrs. Minna (Beaches -- Woodbine), Bill C-241, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (child support payments), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, petitions certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions were presented as follows:

-- by Mr. Gauthier (Ottawa -- Vanier), one concerning euthanasia (No. 351-0241) and one concerning abortion (No. 351-0242);

-- by Mr. Harper (Churchill), one concerning the utilization of the Port of Churchill (No. 351-0243);

-- by Mr. Pickard (Essex -- Kent), one concerning renewable alternative energy sources (No. 351-0244);

-- by Mr. O'Brien (London -- Middlesex), one concerning renewable alternative energy sources (No. 351-0245);

-- by Mrs. Ur (Lambton -- Middlesex), one concerning renewable alternative energy sources (No. 351-0246).

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The House resumed debate on the motion of Mr. Young (Minister of Transport), seconded by Mr. Irwin (Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development), -- That Bill C-22, An Act respecting certain agreements concerning the redevelopment and operation of Terminals 1 and 2 at Lester B. Pearson International Airport, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Transport.

And on the amendment of Mr. Bouchard (Leader of the Opposition), seconded by Mr. Guimond (Beauport -- Montmorency -- Orléans), -- That the motion be amended by striking out all the words after the word ``That'' and substituting the following:

      ``this House declines to give second reading to Bill C-22, An Act respecting certain agreements concerning the redevelopment and operation of Terminals 1 and 2 at Lester B. Pearson International Airport, because the principle of the Bill is flawed due to the fact that it contains no provisions aimed at making the work done by lobbyists more transparent.''

And on the sub-amendment of Mr. Harper (Simcoe Centre), seconded by Mr. Hanrahan (Edmonton -- Strathcona), -- That the amendment be amended by adding after the word ``lobbyists'' the following:

      ``in Canada''.

Debate continued.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

At 5:30 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage of Bill C-212, An Act to recognize hockey as the national sport.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Riis (Kamloops), seconded by Mr. Mills (Broadview -- Greenwood) and Ms. Guarnieri (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.

Debate arose thereon.

By unanimous consent, Ms. Guarnieri (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage), seconded by Mr. O'Brien (London -- Middlesex), moved, -- That Bill C-212 be amended as follows:

      (1) in Clause 2 by striking out line 8 on page 1 and substituting the following:
        ``be the national winter sport of Canada and the game commonly known as lacrosse is hereby recognized and declared to be the national summer sport of Canada.'';
      (2) in Clause 1 by striking out lines 4 and 5 on page 1 and substituting the following:
        ``1. This Act may be cited as the National Sports of Canada Act.'';
      (3) by striking out the long title on page 1 and substituting the following:
        ``An Act to recognize hockey and lacrosse as the national sports of Canada''; and

That, at the conclusion of the time provided for Private Members' Business today, all questions necessary to dispose of Bill C-212 at all stages be deemed to have been proposed, put and carried, and the Bill passed.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Debate resumed on the motion of Mr. Riis (Kamloops), seconded by Mr. Mills (Broadview -- Greenwood) and Ms. Guarnieri (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage), -- That Bill C-212, An Act to recognize hockey and lacrosse as the national sports of Canada, as amended, be now read a second time and referred to a Committee of the Whole.

Debate continued.

Pursuant to Order made earlier today, the Bill, as amended, was deemed read the second time and referred to a Committee of the Whole, deemed considered in a Committee of the Whole, deemed reported without amendment, deemed concurred in at report stage, deemed read a third time and passed.

ADJOURNMENT

At 7:04 p.m., by unanimous consent, the Speaker adjourned the House until tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 24(1).
