In the course of its study of technological progress and research in the agricultural sector, the Committee will be looking at research, development and innovation with an eye to encouraging Canadian exports. The Committee will seek to understand the challenges, problems and other factors that help or hinder the success of Canadian companies’ efforts to innovate. The members will gather comments from industry stakeholders about the federal government’s role in the face of these challenges or problems with respect to agricultural innovation and technology. The following issues will be examined:

  • the importance of trade as an engine of growth for agriculture;
  • innovative achievements and projects;
  • the operation of current science and innovation programs;
  • programs and/or policies with a potential to encourage the discovery, development and marketing of new products and/or technologies;
  • research and funding priorities; and
  • regulatory frameworks.
