M-49 Global pandemic and climate emergency

43rd Parliament, 2nd Session

Motion Text

That, in the opinion of the House, the government should recognize that: (a) Canada is facing dual crises of a global pandemic and the climate emergency; (b) even before the pandemic Canadians were struggling with growing inequality and the climate crisis was threatening our communities; (c) Canada is being left behind while other countries make bold investments to build sustainable economies; (d) we have an opportunity to address both the pandemic and the climate crisis by making immediate investments in a just and sustainable recovery that (i) puts people first, (ii) rebuilds an economy that is sustainable and resilient, (iii) invests in the infrastructure we need to fight climate change, (iv) builds livable communities while creating jobs across Canada; and (e) any recovery measures must be tied to (i) directly supporting workers and communities, not CEOs and shareholders, (ii) transitioning to a sustainable economy, (iii) ensuring climate accountability and progress towards our climate targets.
