M-55 Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area

Motion Text

That, in the opinion of the House, with regard to the Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area (PNCIMA), the government should: (a) establish a trilateral engagement protocol involving First Nations, the province of British Columbia and the federal government; (b) announce a clear mandate and the allocation of adequate human and financial resources to complete the PNCIMA planning process within three years; (c) ratify a PNCIMA analysis and decision-making process design that includes a commitment to collaborative and meaningful stakeholder engagement and that is supported by the provincial and First Nations governments; (d) state process objectives including, but not limited to, the establishment of a network of marine protected areas and the maintenance of ecosystem health and integrity both within and outside these areas; (e) establish a multidisciplinary process team tasked with conducting and commissioning collaborative research and analysis to inform the PNCIMA planning process; and (f) make a formal public announcement of the launch of a PNCIMA process incorporating all these elements.
