     Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum.
    I must inform members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair. The clerk cannot receive other types of motions, entertain points of order or participate in debate.
    We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.
    I am ready to receive motions for the chair.
    Go ahead, Ms. Jaczek.
Hon. Helena Jaczek (Markham—Stouffville, Lib.):
    I move that Valerie Bradford be appointed chair.
    An hon. member: I second that.
The Clerk:
    It has been moved by Ms. Jaczek that Ms. Bradford be elected as chair of the committee.
    Are there any further motions?
    It has been moved by Ms. Jaczek that Ms. Bradford be elected as chair of the committee.
    Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
    The Clerk: Seeing no objections, I declare the motion carried and Ms. Bradford duly elected as chair of the committee.
    I invite Ms. Bradford to take the chair.
    I really appreciate your support. I'm really looking forward to chairing this committee and moving forward for science and research in our usual collaborative fashion.
    Thank you so much. I'm really looking forward to this.
    Members, we will suspend for a few minutes before we resume in camera to continue with the planned business for today.
