Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the committee resumed its study of economic development of official language minority communities.

Patrick Dupuis and Gaëtan Thomas made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Joël Godin moved, — That the committee reports to the House its disappointment at the refusal of the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honorable Pascale St-Onge, to testify before the committee regarding her mandate and priorities with respect to official languages, as well as her obligations in connection with the implementation of the Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

Amendment

Marc G. Serré moved, —

That the motion be amended:

  1. by adding after the words "to the House", the following: "instructs the Chair to write to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Hon. Pascale St-Onge to express", and after the words "disappointment at", the following: "her"
  2. by deleting the words "reports to the House", the word "the", and the words "of the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honorable Pascale St-Onge"
