A meeting of the Board of Internal Economy of the House of Commons was held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 11:20 a.m., in Room 237-C, Centre Block.

NEW MEMBER OF THE BOARD

Pursuant to subsections 50(2) and 50(5) of the Parliament of Canada Act, Mr. Mark Strahl was sworn in as a member of the Board (September 28, 2017).


MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

The minutes of the meeting of June 8, 2017, were adopted and approved for tabling.


BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MEETING

The Board noted correspondence distributed since its last meeting.


PARLIAMENTARY PRECINCT LONG TERM VISION AND PLAN (LTVP)

Rob Wright and Susan Kulba provided an update and answered questions on the Parliamentary Precinct Long Term Vision and Plan progress and next steps.


ADMINISTRATION


2016–2017 Audited Financial Statements

Daniel G. Paquette provided an overview and answered questions related to the 2016–2017 Audited Financial Statements.


Supplementary Estimates (B) for Fiscal Year 2017–2018

Daniel G. Paquette provided an overview and, with André Gagnon and Stéphan Aubé, answered questions related to the Supplementary Estimates (B) for fiscal year 2017–2018.

The Board approved the Supplementary Estimates (B) for fiscal year 2017–2018 in the amount of $34.9 million. The total amount consists of permanent funding in the amount of $10.7 million to help manage the increase in certain activities and services, in addition to the expenditure disclosure initiative for House Officers. The other portion consists of temporary funding in the amount of $24.2 million for the funding of short-term or in-year initiatives.


APPOINTMENT OF BOARD SPOKESPERSON

Pursuant to Standing Order 37(2), Mr. Mark Strahl was appointed to act as a spokesperson for the Board to replace Mr. Gordon Brown.
