The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

On motion of Peter Fragiskatos, it was agreed, — That the Committee resume debate on the motion of Pierre Paul-Hus regarding the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister and on the motion of Blaine Calkins regarding witnesses for the study of Bill C-71.

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion moved by Pierre Paul-Hus, on Thursday, May 10, 2018, which read as follows:

That, Greta Bossenmaier, newly appointed National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, be invited to appear before the Committee at her earliest convenience.

Debate arose thereon.

Peter Fragiskatos moved, — That the debate on the motion be adjourned until September 2018.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion moved by Blaine Calkins, on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, which read as follows:

That, given the importance of the rights impacted by C-71, including as noted by the Justice Minister, its potential impact on the right to be secure against unreasonable search and seizure, the Committee hold additional meetings to allow the following witnesses to testify:

    At 12:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

    At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

    Wendy Cukier made a statement and answered questions.

    At 12:37 p.m., Matthew Dubé took the Chair.

    At 12:42 p.m., Hon. John McKay took the Chair.

    The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

    On motion of Pam Damoff, it was agreed, — That in relation to the study of indigenous people in the correctional system, the proposed budget in the amount of $89,369.40, for the Committee’s travel to Québec, Quebec, Donnacona, Quebec, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, Medicine Hat, Alberta, Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Mâskwâcîs, Alberta, and Edmonton, Alberta, in Summer - Fall 2018, be adopted.

    On motion of Julie Dabrusin, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $24,900, for the study of Bill C-71, be adopted.

    At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
