Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, October 31, 2016, the Committee commenced its study of intellectual property and technology transfer.

Michael Geist, Christine Trauttmansdorff, Marc Nantel and Jaipreet Bindra made statements and answered questions.

At 10:07 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:13 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, the Committee commenced its study of Canada - United States cooperation in innovation and jobs creation.

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Innovation and Technology: An Exchange of Ideas".

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $37,200, for the study of intellectual property and technology transfer, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That all evidence and documents received in public in relation to the briefing on intellectual property and technology transfer be deemed received by the Committee in the context of its study on intellectual property and technology transfer.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Committee’s study of intellectual property and technology transfer, the deadline for the receipt of briefs be no later than Monday, July 31, 2017.

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee, in consultation with the Chair, issue a news release to announce the Committee's study of broadband connectivity in rural Canada and to invite the public to submit briefs, provided that they do not exceed ten pages.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of broadband connectivity in rural Canada, the Chair send a letter inviting the Canadian Cable System Alliance, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Rural Ontario Municipal Association, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and First Nation organizations to submit a brief to the Committee.

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
