2018 Centennial Flame research Award

Tara Collins - Recipient

Ottawa, October 24, 2018 -

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (the Committee) chose Tara Collins as the recipient of the 2018 edition of the Centennial Flame Research Award.

Ms. Collins’ work will focus on understanding the impacts of military-based post traumatic stress disorder on family relationships and family well-being. Ms. Collins comes to this research with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of social work, particularly regarding mental health.

The Centennial Flame Research Award is granted each year by the Committee to a Canadian with a disability to enable him/her to conduct research and prepare a report on the contributions of one or more persons with disabilities to the public life of Canada or the activities of Parliament, in accordance with the Centennial Flame Research Award Act.

For the year 2018, the award amounts to $5,500. Funding for this award is collected from the Centennial Flame monument on Parliament Hill and from any monetary donations made to the Centennial Flame Research Award Fund.
