Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, January 31, 2017, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-277, An Act providing for the development of a framework on palliative care in Canada.

Marilyn Gladu made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:18 p.m., the sitting resumed.

José Pereira made a statement and answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

ORDERED, — That the Chair write a letter to the Department of Health to request:

a. background information on the development of the 2015 Thalidomide Survivors Contribution Program;
b. the total number of individuals who have applied to be recognized by the program to date;
c. the number of individuals who have applied to be recognized by the program and have obtained compensation to date;
d. the number of individuals who have applied to be recognized by the program but have had their applications denied, and the proportion of these individuals who also have contacted the department to appeal these decisions and whether or not their cases have been resolved; and

that this information be provided to the Committee no later than Monday, April 10, 2017.

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
