STANDING COMMITTEE ON FISHERIES AND OCEANS TO VISIT COASTAL COMMUNITIES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA, MANITOBA, AND ONTARIO FOR ITS STUDY OF SMALL CRAFT HARBOURS

Ottawa, October 10, 2018 -

During the week of October 15-19, 2018, members of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (the Committee) will visit coastal communities in British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario to assess the current state of Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s small craft harbours in the region. As part of its study on small craft harbours, the Committee intends to examine emerging and recurring challenges faced by small craft harbours and coastal communities that rely on them.

Committee Chair Mr. Ken McDonald (Avalon) will be joined by Mr. Ken Hardie (Fleetwood — Port Kells), Mr. Robert Morrissey (Egmont), Mr. Churence Rogers (Bonavista — Burin — Trinity), Mr. Mel Arnold (North Okanagan —  Shuswap), Mr. Larry Miller (Bruce — Grey — Owen Sound) and Mr. Fin Donnelly (Port Moody — Coquitlam).

Over the course of the week, the Committee will visit the following communities:

• Nanaimo, Tofino, Campbell River, Bella Bella, Prince Rupert (British Columbia);

• Gimli and neighbouring Lake Winnipeg’s harbours (Manitoba); and

• Bruce Peninsula region’s harbours (Ontario).
