The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the routine motion adopted by the Committee on February 4, 2016, the Clerk of the Committee be authorized to distribute Committee documents relative to the study of barriers facing women in politics to the Member of Parliament from Burnaby South.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, November 14, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of the economic security of women in Canada.

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

At 4:27 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed in a public and televised session.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 13, 2018, the Committee commenced its study of the subject matter of the Supplementary Estimates (C), 2017-18: Vote 1c under Office of the Co-ordinator, Status of Women; and

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 13, 2018, the Committee commenced its study of the subject matter of the Interim Estimates 2018-19: Votes 1 and 5 under Office of the Co-ordinator, Status of Women.

The Minister made a statement and, with Gina Wilson, answered questions.

Motion

Sheila Malcolmson moved, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Finance, the Honourable Bill Morneau, at the earliest opportunity to explain the effect of Budget 2018 on women and girls; and that this meeting be televised.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

Motion

Rachael Harder moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the committee undertake a study on the Government of Canada’s decision to welcome ISIS fighters back to Canada, the trauma and stress this decision caused the women and girl refugees from Syria and Iraq who have settled in Canada, and the gender-based analysis that was used to support this decision; that the committee study this for four meetings, and that these meetings occur before June of 2018; that the Committee report its findings with recommendations to the House; and, that the government provide a response to the recommendations made by the committee.

Debate arose thereon.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:
