Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, March 9, 2017, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-337, An Act to amend the Judges Act and the Criminal Code (sexual assault).

Katerina Frost, Nneka MacGregor, Bonnie Brayton, and Jackie Stevens, by videoconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, made statements and, with Jeremy Dias, answered questions.

At 9:40 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:44 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Motion

Pam Damoff moved, — That the Committee sit in camera for the last 15 minutes of the meeting.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 3.

Francyne Joe, Tracy Porteous, by videoconference from Vancouver, Bristish Columbia, Lise Martin, and Marlihan Lopez, by videoconference from Montreal, Quebec, made statements and, with Chad Kicknosway, answered questions.

At 10:33 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:35 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 10:36 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:36 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

It was agreed, — That the witnesses who appeared during the first hour of the meeting held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, be invited to appear again during the first hour of the meeting scheduled on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted Thursday, April 6, 2017, the members of the Committee submit to the Clerk all of their proposed amendments to Bill C-337 no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

It was agreed, — That, nothwithstanding the motion adopted Thursday, April 6, 2017, the meeting of Thursday, May 11, 2017, be dedicated to the clause by clause consideration of Bill C-337.

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
