Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, April 14, 2016 and section 20 of the Freezing Assets of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Freezing Assets of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act and the Special Economic Measures Act.

David J. Kramer and Jared Genser, by videoconference from Washington, D.C., made statements and answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

H.E. Andrei Sannikov, by videoconference from Warsaw, Poland, made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:29 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the letters prepared for the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and the Minister of Foreign Affairs be sent.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the situation in Eastern Europe and Central Asia 25 years after the end of the Cold War, the proposed budget in the amount of $168,473.25, for the Committee’s travel to Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Poland in the Winter-Spring of 2017, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Canada's engagement with Eastern and Central Europe, the proposed budget in the amount of $149,384.04, for the Committee’s travel to Ukraine, Latvia, and Poland in the Winter-Spring of 2017, be adopted.

At 5:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
