Ottawa, May 22, 2019 -

The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics announced today that representatives from Ecuador, Mexico, Morocco as well as Trinidad and Tobago will be attending the International Grand Committee on Big Data, Privacy and Democracy from May 27 to May 29.

Representatives from Argentina, Chile, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Singapore, and the United Kingdom will also be joining Canada in Ottawa to hear from a wide variety of expert witnesses on how governments can protect democracy and citizen rights in the age of big data. Facebook, Twitter, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple and the Mozilla Foundation will also be attending and giving testimony.

“I am looking forward to welcoming our international colleagues to Ottawa next week and sharing our knowledge and best practices for tackling the issues surrounding big data, privacy and democracy. Together we now represent over 440 million citizens from five different continents. If Mark Zuckerberg is sincere in his commitment to discuss these issues with lawmakers, he will comply with our subpoena and show up.”
