The Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Hon. Scott Brison, Alain Giguère, Shelly Glover, Randy Hoback, Brian Jean, Peter Julian, Hoang Mai, Wayne Marston, Cathy McLeod, James Rajotte and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Chisholm for Peter Julian.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Brett Stuckey, Analyst; James Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Sonia Demers, Assistant Director, Director, Administration; Alison Hale, Director, Income Statistics. Canada Revenue Agency: Cathy Hawara, Director General, Charities Directorate, Legislative Policy and Regulatory Affairs Branch. Department of Finance: Sean Keenan, Director, Personal Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch; Blaine Langdon, Chief, Charities, Personal Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch. Canada Revenue Agency: Bryan McLean, Director, Policy, Planning and Legislation Division, Charities Directorate, Legislative Policy and Regulatory Affairs Branch. Statistics Canada: Sylvie Michaud, Director General, Education, Labour and Income Statistics Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, the Committee commenced its study of tax incentives for charitable donations.
 

Cathy Hawara, Sean Kingston, Sylvie Michaud and Alison Hale made statements and, with Blaine Langdon, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of tax incentives for charitable donations, the proposed budget in the amount of $37,700 be adopted.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
