The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Ed Fast, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joe Comartin, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Ed Fast, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Marc Lemay, Réal Ménard, Rob Moore, Brian Murphy, Rick Norlock, Daniel Petit and Brent Rathgeber.

 

Acting Members present: Tim Uppal for Brian Storseth.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Isabelle Duford, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Robin MacKay, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police: Mike Cabana, Co-Chair, Organized Crime Committee and Assistant Commissioner, Federal and International Operations, Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Vancouver Board of Trade: Darcy Rezac, Managing Director; Dave Park, Assistant Managing Director and Chief Economist. National Parole Board: Jean Sutton, Director, Professional Standards and Decision Processes.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 9, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on the State of Organized Crime.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:51 p.m., the Vice-Chair, Brian Murphy, took the Chair.

 

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That notwithstanding the motion adopted on Monday, March 9, 2009, the Committee postpone its travel until after the April adjournment.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
