The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Bob Dechert, Daryl Kramp, Jean-Yves Laforest, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Ted Menzies, Thomas J. Mulcair, Massimo Pacetti, James Rajotte and Mike Wallace.

Acting Members present: Jean-Yves Roy for Robert Carrier.

Other Members present: Hon. Judy Sgro.

In attendance: House of Commons: Travis Ladouceur, Committee Clerk . Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 7, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-51, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on January 27, 2009 and to implement other measures.

Hon. Jim Flaherty made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
