The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mark Eyking, Peter Goldring, Wajid Khan, Francine Lalonde, Alexa McDonough, Bernard Patry and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Dean Allison for Deepak Obhrai, Robert Carrier for Vivian Barbot, Hon. Irwin Cotler for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Brian Storseth for Bill Casey and Borys Wrzesnewskyj for Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Gerald Schmitz, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Human Rights Watch: Steve Goose, Executive Director, Arms Division. Landmine Action (UK): Simon Conway, Director. Mines Action Canada: Paul Hannon, Executive Director. Canadian Red Cross: Isabelle Daoust, International Humanitarian Law Advisor, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Canadian International Development Agency: Robert Greenhill, President; Adair Heuchan, Acting Director General, Office for Democratic Governance.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on cluster bombs.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Democratic Development.
 

Mr. Greenhill made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
