The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Rob Anders, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Rodger Cuzner, Betty Hinton, Colin Mayes, Gilles-A. Perron, Bev Shipley, Peter Stoffer, David Sweet and Roger Valley.

 

Acting Members present: Claude DeBellefeuille for Roger Gaudet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Brian Ferguson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Veterans Services; Ken Miller, Director, Program Policy Directorate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the Veterans Independence Programme.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Bev Shipley moved, — That the committee travel to Long Term Care facilities throughout Canada in order to gain better understanding of the service and care provided to Canadian Veterans with locations chosen from a list provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Debate arose thereon.

 

On motion of Gilles-A. Perron, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “to” the following: “the St. Anne de Bellevue hospital facility in Montreal as well as other”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the committee travel to the St. Anne de Bellevue hospital facility in Montreal as well as other Long Term Care facilities throughout Canada in order to gain better understanding of the service and care provided to Canadian Veterans with locations chosen from a list provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

 

At 4:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
