The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Lloyd St. Amand, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Cleary, Jeremy Harrison, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Serge Ménard, Carol Skelton, David Smith, Lloyd St. Amand and Roger Valley.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Sue Barnes.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Nadia Bartolini, Research Manager, Specific Claims Branch. As an Individual: Denis Brassard. Department of Justice: Sylvia Duquette, General Counsel, Specific Claims, Aboriginal Affairs Portfolio; Perry Robinson, Acting Senior Counsel, Specific Claims, Aboriginal Affairs Portfolio.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 4, 2005, the Committee resumed its study of First Nations Specific Claims.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 20 000, for the period of November 1st, 2006 to March 31st, 2006 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

On motion of Roger Valley, it was agreed, — That the Committee hear from the Lac Seul First Nation within the context of First Nations Specific Claims Study.

 

At 5:11 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
